This course series is designed to provide Early Childhood Educators professional development through active engagement with course content, facilitators, guest speakers and other course candidates. Please note: This course will not be counted towards any future Ontario College of Teachers accreditation.

PART 1: Foundations of Programming for Young Children

There will be sessions on such topics as how children grow and change during the Kindergarten years, recent research into brain development and learning, the acquisition of literacy and numeracy, how classroom management and set-up affects emotional and social well-being, the skills of observing and reporting play behaviours, the importance of the family in educational preparedness, and innovative practice.
 

PART 2: Implementation of Programming for Young Children

The sessions build on the content and extend the learning of the first Foundations course. Emphasis is placed on planning inquiry-based programs and assessment for learning, of learning and as learning in play-based learning environments.
Pre-requisite: Successful completion of Part 1: Foundations of Programming for Young Children
 

PART 3: Leadership of Programming for Young Children

The final course for early childhood educators consolidates the learning of previous modules through the lens of providing leadership within an exemplary early childhood learning environment. Participants will examine how to: build staff capacity; foster links beyond the classroom; and ensure a positive culture permeates the interactions among all stakeholders.
Pre-requisite: Successful completion of Part 2: Implementation of Programming for Young Children
