Course Description

Environmental education is central to teaching and learning in the 21st century; climate change, resource depletion, and environmental degradation are all pressing contemporary societal issues that require an educational response. This course provides an engaging introduction to teaching and learning in environmental education for both elementary and secondary teachers through a combination of lectures, workshops, outdoor and experiential learning, field trips and guest speakers. It offers maximum flexibility for participants' learning needs through a blended course format (in-class and on-line hours).

Prerequisites

PK12-ESS1-Environmental Education Part 1

Prerequisites for Part 1:

  1. Certificate of Qualification:
    Must be a registered member of the Ontario College of Teachers.

  2. Basic Division Qualification:
    Evidence of the basic division qualification in the respective Primary Division, the Junior Division, the Intermediate Division or the Senior Division is required to take an AQ in that division area. ie: Primary Division is required to take the 3 part Kindergarten AQ.

Please Note:

Any exceptions and additional requirements are noted below.

  • Part I courses do not lead to a divisional entry on the Ontario College of Teachers' Certificate of Qualification. See Primary, Junior/Intermediate, and Senior Basic Qualifications.

Recommendations

 

Successful completion is a final grade of C-

Upon successful completion of the course, a recommendation will be sent to the Ontario College of Teachers.
