Course Description

This course emphasizes the importance of Health and Physical Education in the lives of Intermediate students (grades 7 to 10). Candidates will examine current and effective instructional strategies, equitable assessment practices and other Ministry of Education documents and resources relevant to teaching the 21st Century Learner in Health and Physical Education. Candidates will be given opportunities to collaborate and reflect with colleagues as well as learn through actively participating in an inclusive and cooperative learning environment.

Prerequisites

1. Certificate of Qualification:
Must be a registered member of the Ontario College of Teachers.

2. Post-Secondary Education:

Must hold an acceptable post-secondary degree or equivalent qualifications.

Recommendations

Successful completion is a final grade of C-

Upon successful completion of the course, a recommendation will be sent to the Ontario College of Teachers.

This session will run for 3 weeks intensively. Your learning will take the form of in-depth online discussions as well as group and individual assignments.

Learners will be expected to engage in approximately 42 hours of learning per week for a total of 125 hours:

  • 25 hours synchronous online learning (video conferencing & activities) - click “View Details” next to ’Schedule & Location’ to view the meeting schedule 
  • 75 hours asynchronous online learning
  • 25 hours assignments and independent study
