Course Description
This course emphasizes the importance of Health and Physical Education in the lives of Intermediate students (grades 7 to 10). Candidates will examine current and effective instructional strategies, equitable assessment practices and other Ministry of Education documents and resources relevant to teaching the 21st Century Learner in Health and Physical Education. Candidates will be given opportunities to collaborate and reflect with colleagues as well as learn through actively participating in an inclusive and cooperative learning environment.Prerequisites
1. Certificate of Qualification:
Must be a registered member of the Ontario College of Teachers.
2. Post-Secondary Education:
Must hold an acceptable post-secondary degree or equivalent qualifications.
Recommendations
Successful completion is a final grade of C-
Upon successful completion of the course, a recommendation will be sent to the Ontario College of Teachers.

Michael is an experienced teacher, department head, athletic director, and teacher educator in Health and Physical Education (HPE). Over the past few years, Michael has led an HPE department to develop an inclusive HPE program in a new secondary school. Michael enjoys working with in-service teachers at OISE to share a comprehensive vision and best practices for teaching in HPE.
Carolyn Temertzoglou is a Health and Physical Education facilitator in the teacher education program at OISE. Through Carolyn’s many years of educational experience as a teacher, department head, curriculum writer and teacher educator, she advocates for quality daily health and physical education programs.
