Course Description
Special Education Part 3 builds on the concepts learned in Parts 1 and 2, as well as assisting teachers in developing appropriate leadership abilities and consultation skills at the school and district levels. Candidates enhance their legal knowledge with the application and administration of current legislation. Other topics covered are innovative approaches to developing structures for programs, learning about their role on the school teams, in-service delivery models, how to co-ordinate community resources, and program assessment and evaluation.Notes
Teachers holding qualifications in technological education are also eligible to take this Three-Session Qualification course.
Prerequisites
Prerequisites for Specialist:
- Completion of Part 1 and Part 2:
A current Ontario College of Teachers' Certificate of Qualification showing successful completion of Part 1 and Part 2 of the three-session qualification. - Certificate of Teaching Experience – 2 Years:
Evidence of at least two (2) years of successful teaching experience, including one (1) year of experience in the subject in which the qualification is being sought. This experience must be certified by the appropriate Supervisory Officer on the 'OISE Certification of Teaching Experience Form'.

Recommendations
Successful completion is a final grade of B-
Upon successful completion of the course, a recommendation will be sent to the Ontario College of Teachers.
Hayley is a Special Education Additional Qualifications (AQ) instructor at the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education (OISE) at the University of Toronto. She is currently a Principal in the Upper Grand District School Board (Guelph). She has worked for the Upper Grand District School Board since 2004, teaching both Mathematics and Special Education at the Elementary and Secondary level. Hayley has been facilitating Special Education AQ courses for OISE since 2011, after completing her Masters in Educational Administration. She is currently completing her Doctorate in Educational Leadership. Hayley is passionate about equity, special education, and at-risk students and integrates these topics in her instructional practice and leadership.
