Course Description
The Intermediate ABQ in Mathematics focuses on the curriculum in grades 7 to 10. Engage in a variety of modules, discussions, and learning activities related to teaching the adolescent learner and putting the Mathematics curriculum into practice. An emphasis on the strands of Social-Emotional Learning, Mathematical Processes, and Financial Literacy will equip you with the knowledge and resources needed to support adolescent learners on their learning journeys. Current trends in teaching and assessing mathematics for adolescent learners will also be addressed in this course.
Your enrollment in this ABQ comes with access to the Ontario Association for Mathematics Education (OAME) resources. Through this platform, you will have access to:
- The issues of the Ontario Mathematics Gazette
- Classroom resources
- Free presentations, including all the past ones archived on the site
- chatOAME, an AI tool for planning mathematics lessons
Login information and access to the OAME platform will be provided once you begin your Math ABQ course and will expire once you complete your Math ABQ course.
Prerequisites
1. Certificate of Qualification:
Must be a registered member of the Ontario College of Teachers.
2. Post Secondary Education:
Must hold an acceptable post-secondary degree or equivalent qualifications
3. 2 Full University Degree Credits in the Subject:
Official transcript(s) showing proof of successful completion of a minimum of 2.0 university degree credits or the equivalent in the teaching subject. Note: At least 1.0 full credit should be MATH coded courses (examples include calculus and algebra).
OR
Pre-Admission Test in Mathematics:
Successful completion of OISE CPL's Math Proficiency Test (valid for 3 years from test date) will be accepted in lieu of the degree-credit requirements. Note that the Ontario College of Teacher's Math Proficiency Test (MPT) cannot be taken in lieu of OISE CPL's Math Proficiency Test.
PLEASE NOTE:
1.0 university degree credits is the equivalent to 1 full year course, or, 2 half-year courses.
Recommendations
Successful completion is a final grade of C-Upon successful completion of the course, a recommendation will be sent to the Ontario College of Teachers.
