Course Description

This course focuses on assessment for learning, assessment of learning and assessment as learning. Teachers learn how to develop fair and equitable assessment instruments that promote student learning, foster a collaborative community of learners and inform decision making. Assignments allow teachers to explore and investigate assessment areas of personal interest and curiosity. The course is comprised of a wide variety of rich, research-based resources that build assessment skills and challenge teachers to reflect on how to best assess and evaluate student achievement.

Prerequisites

Certificate of Qualification:
Must be a registered member of the Ontario College of Teachers.

Recommendations

Successful completion is a final grade of C-

Upon successful completion of the course, a recommendation will be sent to the Ontario College of Teachers.

This session will run for 3 weeks. Your learning will take the form of in-depth online discussions, readings, videos in a facilitator paced asynchronous course.

Learners will be expected to engage in approximately 42 hours of learning per week for a total of 125 hours:

  • 100 hours online learning (asynchronous, but facilitator-led and paced into modules)
  • 25 hours assignments and independent study
