Course Description

This course emphasizes the importance of Health and Physical Education in the lives of Senior students (grades 11 and 12). Candidates will examine current and effective instructional strategies, equitable assessment practices and other Ministry of Education documents and resources relevant to teaching the 21st Century Learner in Health and Physical Education. Candidates will be given opportunities to collaborate and reflect with colleagues as well as learn through actively participating in an inclusive and cooperative learning environment.

Notes

For OCT-certified educators looking to obtain their Three-Session Specialist qualification in Health and Physical Education:

Please note that the Health and Physical Education Senior ABQ (Schedule A) and the Health and Physical Education Intermediate/Senior Part 1 AQ (Schedule D) are considered equivalent.

Both above mentioned courses allow for different entry-points into the Three-Session Specialist qualification in Health and Physical Education.

By successfully completing either the Senior ABQ or the Intermediate/Senior Part 1 AQ, you would be eligible to proceed in taking the Health and Physical Education Intermediate/Senior Part 2 AQ, followed by the Health and Physical Education Intermediate/Senior Specialist AQ.

Prerequisites

1. Certificate of Qualification:
Must be a registered member of the Ontario College of Teachers.

2. Post-Secondary Education:

Must hold an acceptable post-secondary degree or equivalent qualifications.

3. 2 Full University Degree Credits in the Subject:
Official transcript(s) showing proof of successful completion of a minimum of 2.0 university degree credits in Kinesiology or related subject.

OR

Intermediate Basic Qualification in Health and Physical Education in lieu of 2.0 university degree credits.

Note: Relevant experience will no longer be accepted.

PLEASE NOTE:

1.0 university degree credits is the equivalent to 1 full year course, or, 2 half-year courses.

Recommendations

Successful completion is a final grade of Pass

Upon successful completion of the course, a recommendation will be sent to the Ontario College of Teachers.
