Environmental education is central to teaching and learning in the 21st century; climate change, resource depletion, and environmental degradation are all pressing contemporary societal issues that require an educational response.

This course series is designed to provide Environmental Education Support Staff professional development through active engagement with course content, facilitators, guest speakers and other course candidates. Please note: This course will not be counted towards any future Ontario College of Teachers accreditation.

PART 1: Foundations of Programming for Environmental Education 

This course provides an engaging introduction to teaching and learning in environmental education for both elementary and secondary education support staff through a combination of lectures, workshops, outdoor and experiential learning, field trips and guest speakers.
 

PART 2: Implementation of Programming for Environmental Education

The sessions build on the content and extend the learning of the first Foundations course.  Collaborate with other Environmental Education Support Staff to explore the connections between system-thinking, ecojustice, and eco-identity in relation to environmental education. A combination of lectures, workshops, outdoor and experiential learning, field trips and guest speakers will be utilized to further develop participants' knowledge, skills and expertise in program planning and assessment in relation to environmentally-based teaching and learning.
Pre-requisite: Successful completion of Part 1: Foundations of Programming for Environmental Education
 

PART 3: Leadership of Programming for Environmental Education

The final course for Environmental Education Support Staff consolidates the learning of previous modules to develop your leadership skills and professional practice.  Engage in collaborative inquiry to study and critically analyze the theory and practice of environmental education. A combination of lectures, workshops, outdoor and experiential learning, field trips, and guest speakers will be utilized to further develop participants' research and presentation skills as environmental education leaders.
